my wifes pulmologist seems to believe that stemcell treatment for copd do'es not exist since no mention is made of it in his medical "bible"
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ I found several articles relating to it. |

He isn't alone in thinking that way. SO many pumonologists prefer to tell their patients they are in end stage and nothing can be done. There is no thinking out of the box from the majority of medical doctors. Well as far as my doctor I have been at end stage since 2004 yet I feel better today than I did then. Why? I had a stem cell treatment, use my inhalers, take supplements and go out and try to live as normal a life as possible and still work 30 hours per week. I use my oxygen, track my oxygen levels with an oximeter to avoid damage to my heart, brain and other vital organs and refuse to give in to this disease and I know I have an FEV1 that is no higher than 28%

Her pulmonologist is obviously not very well read. He needs to get his nose out of his medical bible, which apparently only consists of the old testament, and begin reading up to date material. Scotland is a country that is progressive as far as stem cells go. She must have an old fashioned doctor. There are lots of them around - most in fear of their own jobs and afraid to think outside the box as Jeannine says.
As patients we have to start making our voices heard. That's what ICMS is working to do. I had to educate my own pulmonologist about a type of stem cell therapy I was having. He told me that it could be dangerous. It turns out he was using a resource that was from his college days that was totally outdated. I pointed him in the direction of new material he could read and he was totally surprised by what he read. I hope I ignited in him a spark of interest that he will pursue so that he doesn't have to tell patients they are end stage and nothing else can be done for them.
