Hi everyone! I am 56 yrs. old on 2 liters of oxygen 24/7. I have severe COPD. Was diagnosed 2006.I have turned down the option of double lung transplants. I am interested in the stem cell therapy. I spoke to someone at Stem Genex in Santa Monica, CA. They said the cells are taken from fat and put in intravenously. The cost is $13,900.00. Has anyone every had a cell treatment though them? Have any of you had treatments of stem cells? I am trying to prolong my life, but I am so confused. Can you help? And would you have to have more than one?

Cinderman - I honestly do not know of anyone with COPD that has had major lasting improvement from the type of treatment you are talking about. After having many treatments over the past several years, I am convinced that stem cell therapy alone cannot produce the type of regeneration we all dream of. The best treatment I have had to date is from Dr. Feinerman in Aventura, FL. He hosted Ask the Doctor this month (it's in the Spotlight section) and he pretty much says the same thing, that stem cell treatment alone just isn't going to help that much. He uses a combination therapy that I rigidly have followed. So far I am very pleased with my progress. I feel better than I have for years. The price you were quoted seems quite high to me for one adipose treatment, probably done in a clinic over a few hours time period. I just don't think you would get the results you hope for. If there is more to the treatment than that, then it might be something worth considering.

    You are not alone!

After getting a stem cell treatment using mini lipo suction/ adipose last summer in Coral Gables, then getting a 2nd treatment using a blood draw and IV in Houston this past spring, I do understand your frustration. My first treatment helped me a little, the second treatment has not seemed to help me at all. I don't have an unlimited budget, so need to be as careful as possible before choosing anything more.
I am wondering if anyone has tried the Sarasota clinic where laser stimulation is used? I am seriously considering that next and would love to hear if anyone has tried this.

I don't think stem cells alone will be enough for severe COPD. Where did you go in Houston? Did they do any other treatments besides stem cells? I had laser treatment for over 2 years and it did nothing for me. As I mentioned before, the treatment I got from Dr. Feinerman, which includes more than just stem cells is the best I have ever had. I started getting treatments in 2007 and have tried many different types of stem cell therapy. The treatment I got from Dr. Feinerman is the only one that has had lasting effects and has actually improved my lung function. It's an ongoing treatment that he provides, much of which can be done once you return home.

    Treatment in Coral Gables

The treatment was 75% of the stem cells through an IV and the rest were nebulized. I also took their supplement for 3 months following the treatment. I didn't have the hassle or expense of traveling to Mexico and the cost was 5000 less han 13,900. The mini lipo suction took a long time in healing and was not pleasant.
