The promise is so great and yet unless we run out of mice, I am afraid it is still a long way from reality for humans in the U.S. and other highly regulated countries. I hope I am wrong.

Yes, a lot of money has got poured in through Jerry Lewis telethons over the past many years, and MDA has been a huge fundraiser compared to other disease-related charities, but we seem to be no closer to any possible cure for it.
