False information from Stem Cell Pioneers
The bulletin board Stem Cell Pioneers was created by two patients, Barbara Hanson and Jeannine Robertson, who are co-owners of a SeaChange for Life, company that distributes nutraceuticals and naturopathic supplements, and who have received multiple rounds of stem cell injections for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, at least some of which were provided by Feinerman and Nabavi at Stem Cell Biotherapy (who later ending up suing each other - a legal battle in which Feinerman has won the first round).

Their website is a forum for patients to discuss their experiences and exchange views on what is available worldwide. They have apparently decided that I am an enemy of truth and a tool of "Big Pharma". This is the most recent case in which I have been attacked as someone who hates stem cell treatments; I generally take note of these and then promptly ignore them.

For the record, however, I should state that I am not paid by the ISSCR, although I am a paying member of the society and have participated in various volunteer committees, including the recent task force on unproven stem cell treatments. I should also reiterate that I am not and have never been employed by a drug or biotech company, that I do not own stocks or assets of any kind (besides my house, car and meager savings), that I do not have commercial interests whatsoever (being employed by a publicly funded organization), and that I would very much welcome the introduction of effective stem cell based treatments. I therefore find it curious that Ms. Hanson and Ms. Robertson, who have overt financial interests in selling their version of the truth. I wish them luck with finding help with their medical condition, but I take exception to slander.

Panel at ISSCR
I just got back from San Francisco, where the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR) was holding its annual meeting. As a pre-meeting event, the society co-organized with CIRM a public forum on travel by patients to receive unproven stem cell treatments, with a panel of speakers and plenty of time for questions for the audience. The panel included stem cell researchers Deepak Srivastava and Jeanne Loring, ophthalmologist and spinal cord injury patient Claude Gerstle, as well as Tim Caulfield and me, as investigators of the stem cell woo phenomenon.
UPDATE: A video of the panel is now posted on the CIRM website

Mr. Sipp goes on to trash Dr. F as well. We all need to comment on any of the news articles discussing any of this. ISSCR's sole purpose is money! We will never get treatment in this country unless this changes. Dr. Centeno has put his practice on the line for our cause. We need to support him any way we can. If you see something that any of us can comment on, please post it. Thanks to Politicolnews.com and some of the others that Barbara has listed, word is finally getting out about adult stem cell treatments. People that have had treatments are commenting. The news follows comments on these items of interest. Representatives in Congress probably do as well. We need to let them know where we stand.

Wow - I see he also included a recipe for smoothies.

It's rather amusing in a way that we are attacked by some guy I've never heard of and as far as our SeaChange For Life business. HA! We have yet to even make a single penny of profit. We use most of the monies to pay for these two forums and to pay for advertisements on google and several other search engines for our two forums.

Apparently we hit a nerve and to attack Dr F who really is a kind hearted, caring man who truly wants to help people. Dr F founded the first African American hospital in Miami decades ago. HE is no shyster - but I know first hand his former partner Nabavi is.

HA HA HA I am thoroughly touched by Mr. Sipp's latest post about dispelling confusion. He only does this because he cares sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much about us.

Who is this Mrs. Robertson that I am in business with anyway? Maybe, she's the culprit. Come on Dougie, get the name right at least. I am glad he has noticed us. When you get attacked, it usually means you have hit a nerve somewhere. What Mr. Sipp fails to understand is that this forum was founded to try to help people from going to the very clinics he rails about. We agree with him. We just don't agree that our own stem cells are drugs and that the ISSCR should become the global stem cell police. Give patients some credit for having some intelligence. Give the ICMS some credit too, as they are truly patient oriented. Sipp's alternatives are as bad as the bogus clinics he talks about. There are no clinicals, no treatments in the U.S., no new drugs, nothing for most terminal diseases. His idea is for us to sacrifice ourselves by staying home and dying like good little girls and boys for the sake of science and a global FDA with a handful of companies given approval for stem cell treatments that will undoubtedly be paired with some kind of life long pharmaceutical product 20 or more years from now.

Mr. Sipp - I am truly flattered by your attention to me and Mrs. Robertson. Now, please do all patients a favor and start rallying for some real medical advancements in the U.S. instead of spewing a one size fits all rhetoric on stem cell clinics.

Dispelling confusion
After a few months of blogging, some of my posts have begun to attract comments and emails, so I wanted to reiterate here what I wrote in my very first post. This blog is written by me, alone, as an individual who has been disturbed by the rapid proliferation of companies that in my view are seeking to profit by selling unproven, untested, and unregulated products that they claim contain stem cells. None of the statements I make are endorsed by my employer or any organization of which I am a member. Readers who wish to learn more about a given organization's positions should refer to their websites, or contact them directly.

I do this because I am sincerely concerned and upset at the practices of companies and individuals in countries all over the world which make medical claims without evidence, lure patients to dodgy clinics located halfway around the world, then inject them with cellular concoctions and send them home poorer by tens of thousands dollars. Trying new things in medicine is valuable, but ignoring the well-established safeguards and protections that are built into the testing process is unprofessional and dangerous at best, and immoral at worst.

Yes it just tickles me that Doug thinks that we need Clinical Studies for proving the immune system of the human body works! LOLOL...

He is a paid pharma marketing person, nothing more and to top it off he uses a cheap Blogger site which is free from Google to post the dribble.
