One of our members received this from his Congresswoman after sending her an e-mail from the www.stopfda.com site. I would encourage all of you in the U.S. to ask your representatives to support HR 2717. It would be a terrific start.

Some of my colleagues in the House have become vocal critics of the FDA in

recent months. The Energy and Commerce Committee holds the authority to

oversee and investigate the FDA. Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN) introduced

H.R. 2717, the Access to Medical Treatment Act. This legislation gives an

individual the right to select any medical treatment that he or she
desires,

including a treatment that is not approved, certified, or licensed by the

FDA, so long as a health care practitioner prescribes it.

If any of you receive replies, please consider posting them here. Thanks.

When does this come up for a vote?

This bill never became law. This bill was proposed in a previous session of Congress. Sessions of Congress last two years, and at the end of each session all proposed bills and resolutions that haven't passed are cleared from the books. Members often reintroduce bills that did not come up for debate under a new number in the next session.

This is the new, similar proposed legislation, but don't hold your breath on this one either, although it couldn't hurt to ask your representative to co-sponsor it.

H.R. 3261:

Access to Medical Treatment Act
111th Congress

This is a bill in the U.S. Congress originating in the House of Representatives ("H.R."). A bill must be passed by both the House and Senate and then be signed by the President before it becomes law.

Bill numbers restart from 1 every two years. Each two-year cycle is called a session of Congress. This bill was created in the 111th Congress, in 2009-2010.

This bill is in the first step in the legislative process. Introduced bills and resolutions first go to committees that deliberate, investigate, and revise them before they go to general debate. The majority of bills and resolutions never make it out of committee. [Last Updated: Jan 6, 2010 2:41AM]
